Do not use in heavy wind, May 23, 2012 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Guide Gear Cantilever Umbrella Base The base is about 33x33x6 inches. It is far easier to use water as the weight, rather than sand. It is difficult to distribute sand evenly within the base. With water, you can remove the water by using the drain plug to make it easier to relocate the base. Since the base is made of plastic, there is some flexing when the cantilever umbrella is fully extended.
Installation is simple if your umbrella has mounting holes at 3 5/8 inches on center. Simply bolt your umbrella to the nuts within the base. HOWEVER, if your umbrella has mounting holes at 4 inches on center, you will have to knock out the nuts with a wooden dowel (to prevent damage to the nuts). You then relocate the nuts to the other holes at 4 inches on center. Use a screwdriver to help you insert and guide the nuts into the deep holes. The base does not include instructions for relocating the nuts, but it is an easy process once you actually see the base.
